BDA Group was established in 1990 primarily providing economic analysis and economic modelling services to clients in the agricultural and natural resources field. The business has steadily expanded and is now recognised among Australia’s leading environmental economists supporting Commonwealth, State and private sector clients explore opportunities for environmental and natural resource policy reform and market instruments for environmental management. We have conducted a number of major investigations, both for industry and government.

Our people have held senior executive positions with multi-disciplined organisations including the CSIRO, ABARE and NSW Environment Protection Authority, and have significant expertise in the design of natural resource and environmental policy instruments, benefit cost analysis of policies, regulations and guidelines, and policy review and evaluation. We also have extensive experience in liaising with industry in relation to the impact of policy proposals.

We focus on providing high quality research and analyses tailored to meet the specific needs of the client. We stage our work in a way that allows collaboration and feedback from the client at key points in the project’s development through progress reports and client project meetings. We develop our approach to each analysis to allow us to identify the key drivers influencing the assessment and to maximise insights for the client that may be useful for policy development.

We have had considerable experience in policy assessment where there is poor information both on the likely outcomes of the policy as well as the value the community may place on those outcomes. We have successfully used a range of assessment approaches to deal with poor data, risk and uncertainties in policy analysis.
We undertake collaborative project work with other organisations where this is deemed suitable to supplement our expertise, to provide a local presence or increase the level and / or mix of resources available. Our people have tertiary training in environmental economics and have developed their knowledge through work experiences, study tours and professional forums. We also regularly provide applied training courses on economic and environmental evaluation and market-based instruments to government.
